Pertegò - Black (2018) EN

The Italian Pertegò is absolutely not a new band, their previous albums were released at least four years ago, and Black is supposed to be the project's new beginning., And they do it with an album filled with with ethereal post-rock full of electronics and epic sounds.

This atmosphere generated by the grand keys, electronics and strings has its source in the project's philosophy reflected in those words: "telling stories about still free nature, they are talking about their world made of simple things and the nature that gave them birth". Those thoughts, just like the Italians' music, seem to have connections with new age movements, but also has a lot of original approaches and grandeur. If there was ever a cyber-punk adaptation of The Lord Of The Rings, Pertegò could make its soundtrack.

This album sounds best when the epic music is joined by a very professional-sounding vocal, which changes everything into some sort of post-rock opera (as in Cold Ballad). But the most delicate and perhaps the most epic would be their brilliant K.A.R.I.

Włoskie Pertegò nie jest w żadnym wypadku nowym zespołem, ich poprzednie albumy wydane były przed czterema laty, teraz, wraz z Black, projekt ma chęć zacząć wszystko od początku. I robi to płytą pełną eterycznego post-rocka wypełnionego elektroniką i epickimi dźwiękami. 

Ta atmosfera, generowana przez podniosłe klawisze, elektronikę i smyczki ma odzwierciedlenie w filozofii projektu podsumowaną słowami o "opowiadaniu historii o wciąż wolnej naturze, mówią o ich świecie stworzonym z prostych rzeczy i naturze, która je zrodziła". Zarówno to jak i muzyka Włochów podsuwa skojarzenia z twórczością new age'ową, ale ma w sobie więcej oryginalności i pewnego splendoru. Gdyby kiedyś powstała cyberpunkowa adaptacja Władcy Pierścieni, Pertegò mogliby zrobić do niej soundtrack.

Najlepiej płyta brzmi, gdy do podniosłej muzyki dochodzi bardzo profesjonalnie brzmiący wokal, co zamienia wszystko w swego rodzaju post-rock operę (np. w Cold Ballad). Najdelikatniej za to i być może najpodnioślej, Włosi brzmią w fantastycznym K.A.R.I.

Murmure - Nos idées fantômes (2018) EN

The Canadian duet consisting of Rachel Mayer and Keven Carrière comes back to Łabandzi Śpiew. A year ago, their "Évaporation" put me in awe with the way it opened slightly the gates to the airy paradise, now Murmure released more shoegazish album called "Nos idées fantômes".

As they already managed to make us used to, their music is dominated with the light but also mysterious vocal by Rachel who is often very much focused on murmuring and thus the name of the project. This time though, it is accompanied by more shoegaze-like guitars. Perhaps they are not as crushing as in other bands, but their presence is clear as rain. That's why the album seems to be livelier and energetic without any loss of the huge dose of airiness.

I can hardly single out one particular song. "Les vestiges d'un rêve" is slightly slower and more atmospheric, "L'imaginaire #6 (La résignation)" livelier and pop-ish, but also finished with some beautiful noise while "Nos idées fantômes" makes a great and soul-stirring ballad. Every shoegaze fan should find something for them on this album.

Kanadyjski duet Rachel Mayer i Keven Carrière powraca na Łabandzi Śpiew. Rok temu ich "Évaporation" zachwyciło uchyleniem bram do eterycznego raju, teraz Murmure wydaje bardziej shoegaze'ową płytę, "Nos idées fantômes".

Tak jak nas do tego zdążyli przyzwyczaić, ich muzyka zdominowana jest przez lekki a zarazem tajemniczy wokal Rachel, która często skupia się na mruczando, stąd zresztą nazwa projektu. Tym razem jednak, towarzyszą jej bardziej shoegaze'owe gitary. Być może nie są one przygniatające, jak u wielu przedstawicieli gatunku, jednak wyraźnie zaznaczają swoją obecność. Przez to album wydaje się być bardziej żwawy i energetyczny, co jednak nie ujmuje mu niczego z olbrzymiej dawki eteryczności.

Ciężko wyróżnić którąś z piosenek. "Les vestiges d'un rêve" jest nieco wolniejsza i bardziej klimatyczna, "L'imaginaire #6 (La résignation)" żwawsza i popowa, a jednak zamknięta hałaśliwym finałem, a tytułowa "Nos idées fantômes" to wzruszająca ballada. Każdy fan shoegaze'u znajdzie coś na tej krótkiej płycie dla siebie.

Winter - Ethereality (2018) EN

Winter is first of all Samira Winter, half-American, half-Brazilian, raised on the American punk and Brazilian pop. And creating dream pop that is airy but bright like a sunny weather. Her new album is called "Ethereality" and the title says it all about the music you can find there.

With her very interesting voice, the artists sings pop choruses that are half-covered by a veil of airy sounds, and it all swims in neon lights. The most interesting are those part where Winter gets to the highest highest gear of being catchy (as in the best track here, "Alligator"), but also when quite suddenly and out of nowhere somewhat more aggressive guitars appear making a great contrast against the overall atmosphere of the album (as in "Black Sea" decorated with almost punk chorus).

The further the album goes, the more dreamy it gets. The last final tracks present dense, airy dream almost without the pop part. It is where Winter's voice turns into a beautiful dream and the ballad-like structure of the songs let you float engrossed in those sounds.

Winter to przede wszystkim Samira Winter, pół-Amerykanka, pół-Brazylijka, wychowana na amerykańskim punku i brazylijskim popie. A tworząca eteryczny chociaż pogodny dream pop. Nowy album nazywa się "Ethereality" i ten tytuł mówi wszystko o muzycznym nastroju na nim zawartym.

Artystka swoim wyjątkowo interesującym głosem wyśpiewuje popowe refreny na wpół zasłonięte grubą woalą eterycznych dźwięków, a wszystko skąpane jest neonową poświatą. Najciekawiej brzmią te fragmenty, gdzie Winter włącza najwyższy bieg wpadania w ucho (jak w najlepszym chyba "Alligator"), a także gdy trochę znikąd pojawiają się nieco gwałtowniejsze gitary znakomicie kontrastujące z całą atmosferą płyty (jak w "Black Sea" udekorowanym prawie punkowym refrenem).

Z biegiem płyty zmienia ona jednak charakter. Ostatnie dwa kawałki to już gęsty, eteryczny dream niemal wyprany z popu. To tutaj dopiero wokal Winter zmienia się w piękny sen, a balladowa struktura utworów pozwala na unoszenie się w błogim zasłuchaniu.

Box and the Twins - Everywhere I Go Is Silence (2017) EN

 German Box and the Twins combines airy dreampop with an unsettling darkwave vocals. And enlists their inspiration in the most beautiful way possible so it deserves its own four verses: 

"The sound of breaking glass.
The rain against Your window.
The sound of breaking hearts.

Midnight frost."

No wonder their album called "Everywhere I Go Is Silence" is simply so good. Their songs are, of course, about love, but it's a topic that can be talked and talked about. BatT do it in such a way that every track captivates with its own melody and atmosphere. I am bought by "Gravity" and "Perfume Well" and "Ice Machine" but the very best one for me is "This Place Called Nowhere" that both lyrics- and atmosphere- makes a great sequel to the recent "Somewhere in the Nowhere" by Chrysta Bell and David Lynch. Both songs presents "nowhere" as a geographically relevant place with its own coordinates but... is it worth getting lost there? That's debatable. The album is closed by three post-rock ballads and this is a particularly sad ending.

Where the band goes there's no silence, that's for sure. More like there's unsettling love music. And this is absolutely great.

Box and the Twins - Everywhere I Go Is Silence (2017) PL

Niemiecki Box and the Twins łączy eteryczny dreampop z niepokojącą darkwave'owym wokalem. A do tego najpiękniej opisuje swoje inspiracje, tak ze opis ten zasługuje na własne cztery wersy:

"Dźwięk rozbijanego szkła

deszcz bijący o Twoje okno

dźwięk pękającego serca

mróz o północy"

Nic dziwnego, że ich płyta "Everywhere I Go Is Silence" robi takie wrażenie. Utwory mówią oczywiście o miłości, ale można o niej mówić i mówić. BatT robią to tak, że każdy utwór urzeka swoją własną melodią i atmosferą. Kupują mnie i "Gravity" i "Perfume Well" i "Ice Machine" lecz największym hiciorem jest dla mnie "This Place Called Nowhere" który i tekstowo i klimatycznie tworzy wspaniały sequel do niedawnego przeboju duetu Chrysta Bell-David Lynch - "Somewhere in the Nowhere". W obu "nigdzie" zdecydowanie ma swoje geograficzne koordynaty. Inną kwestią jest, czy warto się tam zagubić. Album kończą trzy post-rockowe ballady, to jest bardzo smutny koniec.

Tam, gdzie chadza zespół ciszy na pewno nie ma. Jest raczej niepokojąca muzyka o miłości A to wyjątkowo wspaniała wiadomość.
