Noorvik - Omissions (2019) EN

The Germans of Noorvik have already appeared on the blog of course, it's one of the band that made me pay close attention to the uber-rich post-rock scene of the country. Now the Cologne-based artists released a new EP and, as it could be guessed, Omissions is a really solid piece of music.

Their as guitar as possible post-rock is a mixture of melodic riffs and heavy noise. As in the album opening Floating in which the dancing, subtle guitar sounds suddenly ends in the middle of the track where the guitar noise starts to take over. And doesn't stop up to the end as the musicians find more and more ways to generate it. Especially impressive is the final part of Above, animistically aggressive fragments of Hidden or slowly developing Dark. The Germans delivered what they were supposed to deliver. Again.

Niemcy z Noorvik już oczywiście pojawiali się na blogu, to jeden z tych zespołów, który zwrócił moją uwagę na przebogatą niemiecką scenę post-rockową. Teraz artyści z Kolonii wydali nową EP-kę i, jak należało się spodziewać, Omissions jest bardzo solidne.

Ich gitarowy jak tylko się da post-rock to mieszanka melodyjnych riffów i ciężkiego hałasu. Tak jest w otwierającym krążek Floating, w którym tańczące, łagodne granie kończy się mniej więcej w połowie, gdy do gry wchodzi gitarowy hałas. I ten nie ustępuje aż do końca bo muzycy znajdują coraz to inne sposoby by go generować. Nadzwyczaj efektownie brzmi zwłaszcza końcówka Above, zwierzęco agresywne fragmenty Hidden czy długo rozkręcający się Dark. Niemcy znów dowieźli co mieli dowieźć.

A, i nie należy zapominać o tradycyjnie pięknym cover arcie.

Ostatnio okazuje się, że Niemcy to prawdziwe zagłębie klimatycznego post-rocka. Wystarczy przypomnieć zeszłoroczne płyty Magma Waves czy MMTH. Na początku tego roku ich godnym kontynuatorem zostaje Noorvik i od razu jest kandydatem na post-rockową płytę roku.

Surowy i zatrważający gitarowy hałas to główna charakterystyka zespołu. Ich gitary brzmią naprawdę mocno, trafiając od razu do odrętwiałego z wrażenia mózgu. Mimo to słychać w muzyce zespołu i melodie i pomysły na prowadzenie poszczególnych kompozycji. Spotykają się w nich i młócące basy i kwieciste riffy i budujące atmosferę i napięcie tła.

Każdy utwór jest światem samym w sobie. Nie sposób ujednolicić i stwierdzić, że któryś jest spokojniejszy czy bardziej energetyczny od drugiego, wszystkie zmieniają się jak pogoda w górach, wszystkie dążą do instrumentalnego spełnienia. Poza instrumentami nie ma prawie żadnych innych efektów - jedynie w "Chugach" pojawiają się klimatyczne nagrania w spokojniejszym fragmencie.

Recently it seems that Germany is the world's capital of atmospheric post-rock. Let's just mention yesterday's albums by Magma Waves and MMTH. At the beginning of this year, their loyal heir seems to be Noorvik whose new album is already a candidate for the post-rock album of 2018.

Raw and disquieting noise is their main characteristic. Their guitar sound really loud, going straight to the brain. and yet there are clearly audible melodies and ideas how to construct a song in their music. They are met with smashing bass lines, flamboyant riffs and atmosphere-building backgrounds.

Every one of the tracks is a world of its own. It's no way to make it homogeneous and say that one track is quieter or more energetic than another one. Everything changes just like weather in mountains, everything reaches to musical fulfillment. Even though there's not much apart from instruments themselves, just some moody recordings in the quieter parts of "Chugach".
