Dwoje berlińskich artystów współpracujących ze sobą i wydających wspólną płytę pod patronatem labelu Dronarivm, co może pójść nie tak? Znany już na tym blogu Laux i multi-instrumentalistka Daniela Orvin na The Writings, dają popis ekstremalnie melancholijnej neoklasyki.

Bardzo ciekawy jest tutaj koncept budowy płyty - połowę utworów stworzył albo Laux albo Orvin, więc technicznie byłby to split, natomiast druga połowa to już wspólne dzieło. Zresztą muzycy podkreślają, że podczas pracy nad albumem zostali przyjaciółmi dopełniającymi nawzajem swoje talenty, a The Writings stała się meta-płytą której tematem jest właśnie kolaboracja.

Od strony muzycznej jest to nadzwyczaj smutne połączenie neoklasyki z minimalistycznym, a czasem industrialnym w brzmieniu ambientem. Faktycznie też, najbardziej interesująco brzmią kawałki w wykonaniu obojga artystów, a zwłaszcza dwucześciowy Same Situation, Different Perspectives i depresyjny do ekstazy The Writings.

Sven Laux and Daniela Orvin - The Writings (2019) EN

Two Berlin-Based artists cooperating and releasing an album together under Dronarivm label, what could go wrong? Already known on this blog Laux and multi-instrumentalist Daniela Orvin on The Writings are showing some mad skills in the field of melancholic neoclassicism.

The concept of this album is really interesting, half of the tracks were created by either Laux or Orvin so it could be treated as a split album, on the other hand the second half is their joined effort. The artists themselves state that creating the album made them become friends who complete each other's talents. And The Writings became a meta-album the theme of which is the cooperation itself.

From the music point of view, it is extremely sad mixture of neoclassicism and minimalist and sometimes industrially sounding ambient. And indeed, the most interesting tracks seem to be the ones created by both of the artists, especially the two-part track Same Situation, Different Perspectives and ecstatically depressive The Writings.

Sven Laux - Paper Streets (2017) EN

Sven Laux is a real Renaissance man, he himself calls himself with many names: "Artist, Composer, Sound Designer, Musician, DJ, Film Addict. Not necessarily in that order.". All of those - from the artistic soul, through experience with music making, up to cinematographic inspirations - have made the German create the wonderful "Paper Streets".

The movie-likeness of Laux's compositions is noticeable everywhere. In the epicness-radiating "Are You Still With Me?", in the crammed with found somewhere samples "A Glimpse Of Memory" and in other, more intimate tracks. Everything is played on piano keys, cello and violin and has to seduce everyone who likes the neoclassical music.

The album focuses on the way to recreate the feeling of being detached and reflective over what's happening that both appear due to the time passing by. Melancholy lurks from each of the finely design note.

Sven Laux to człowiek renesansu, sam przedstawia siebie wieloma mianami: "artysta, kompozytor, designer dźwięku, muzyk, didżej, uzależniony od filmów, niekoniecznie w tej kolejności". Z pewnością wszystko to - od artystycznej duszy przez doświadczenie z muzyką po kinematograficzne inspiracje - pozwoliły Niemcowi na wydanie wspaniałej "Paper Streets".

Filmowość kompozycji Lauksa czuć na każdym kroku. Zarówno w epatującym epickością "Are You Still With Me?" jak w zagraconym znalezionymi gdzieś samplami "A Glimpse Of Memory" i w bardziej intymnych kompozycjach. Wszystko zagrane jest na pianinie, wiolonczeli i skrzypcach i musi uwieść każdego, kto ceni sobie muzykę neoklasyczną.

Płyta skupiona jest na odtworzeniu uczucia odklejenia od rzeczywistości i analizowania tego, co ma miejsce, które pojawiają się spowodowane przemijającym czasem. Melancholia wyziera z każdej precyzyjnie nakreślonej nuty.
