Sometimes music of various genres sounds as if it was created as a movie soundtrack. This Patch Of Sky are specialists in cinematic post-rock. Elevated but not bombastic, fantastically atmospheric and beautiful.
The Americans play "music without words to communicate without language", and they achieve their goal with dense but not deafening guitars, long-winded compositions and sound of violins put in strategic places. This is how, for example, "Coordinates (44°06'12"N 121°46'09"W)" goes, and it's one that can hardly leave the audience not touched. The majority of the album is pretty delicate and peaceful, the post-rock noise is traded for tonns of climate and no one can possible regret this transaction.
The band is inspired by This Will Destroy You among others and, what's interesting, undoubtedly a huge honour for them was the fact that the track closing this album is an alternative version of "Pale Lights" remixed by... This Will Destroy You. I have no doubts that this is one of the best post-rock albums of the year.
"These Small Spaces" costs 10 USD.
