Nela Gzowska, Wania Włodarczyk and Zosia Hołubowska - Wilcze Jagody (Deadly Nightshade, in Polish literally Wolf Berries), synthpop feminists from Warsaw. They describe their music as a combination of three elements: "throbbing bass, oneiric guitar and sweetish keys". It is a mixture of shoegaze echoes and synth disco. Plus a stron feminist message.
And this is what hit me first as they play around references to the reality of today's world. "Nie chcę cię potrzebować, nie chcę cię pragnąć" ("I don't want to need you, I don't want to desire you") in "Klucz" ("The Key") or "Nie mam czasu na twe zaklęcia i zamki na lodzie" ("I have no time for you spells and castles built on ice") in my favourite "Tinder". It's hard to say whether they are emancipation anthems or sad songs about unhappy love affairs. Perhaps both at the same time. Plus fantastic melodies forcing the audience to hum.
I am especially drawn by the vocals that are exactly in the middle of the way between shoegaze mist and coldwave chill. The girls showed their strength on the OFF Festival, where even though they played early in the afternoon, they managed to get quite a number of people to listen to them.
