They claim to play melancholic rock scratched with post-rock, they are based in Warsaw and have just released their first long-play. Moonzibar, the trio consisting of Filip Pokłosiewicz, Łukasz Cirocki (both already known from Minerals), Mateusz Bartosiewicz is ready to lead us to the Moon Zanzibar.
A crucial element of their music is Pokłosiewicz's vocal that with its deep and warm sound reminds me of another Polish export singer - Mariusz Duda of Riverside and to be honest in the first moment I thought Moonzibar is another Duda's side project. But the truth is different. Apart from the vocal, the band's music caught my attention with skillful way they build up the tension in their tacks ("Stupid Fucking White Man") and how they are able to change their pace ("Black Clouds").
They are great to listen to both in a Thom Yorke-like murmuring in "The Legend" and in the deafening "A Bucket of Biscuits". But in my opinion the most interesting one is "Everybody Else" that goes smoothly from depressed lamentation to spacious post-rock and wall of noise that ends the album in "Waves".
"Moonzibar" can be bought for 5 EUR (21 PLN)..
