Alpha du Centaure is a Lyon-based quartet that (attention, I had some fun with translating from French) "offers tormented and carefully polished post-rock filled with melancholy". Their new album, September-released Paralysis, is at the same time the first long play by the band.
It seemed to me that a band with such a name would rather make some space, more synth and ambient, version of post-rock. That's absolutely not the case, from the very first sounds of the new album, the French attack with raw and noisy guitars. Exactly this storm of coarse sounds is what fills the audience first with panic and them after a while, with euphoria. If it's true what the artists wrote on their FB, that the album makes "the exploration of dreams and their personifications", they have to have some hiperspeed nightmares.
Not before Paralysis are we granted with some moments of rest (nomen est omen) but this track is so complex that there's almost everything within. It's worth your while to let yourself be taken by this album as it works like an express elevator towards the stratosphere. For everyone who likes the loud, the hard and the guitar.
