Noyus - Mucha (2017) EN

Noyus is another artist this week, who comes back to the blog. Based in Lithuania, the artist who at the beginning of the year released an atmospheric album with Ükku, this time creates his very own music. And it doesn't make it any less atmospheric either.

Quite opposite actually, he takes his dark electronics to another level. His compositions makes something like an electronic cold wave. Apart from the darkness-emitting bass, here as thick beats, and touching vocal filling the whole space, there is nothing much. This minimalism creates an uncanny atmosphere and makes every additional effect extremely meaningful and noticeable. Like the field recordings in "Good" or barely audible backgrounds in "SiRENS".

Noyus is no stranger to the vibes of danger and mystery either. And it is well depicted in my favourite "Dark Woods". And if anybody has been to Lithuania, they know that those dark, infinite woods there are something to be scared of.

Noyus to kolejny w tym tygodniu artysta, który pojawia się po raz kolejny na blogu. Litwin, który na początku roku nagrał wspaniale nastrojową płytę w duecie z Ükku, tym razem nagrywa samemu. I nie jest w tym ani trochę mniej klimatyczny.

Wręcz przeciwnie, wyprowadza na kolejny poziom swoją mroczną elektronikę. Jego kompozycje to coś jakby elektroniczna zimna fala. Poza mrocznym we wrażeniu basem, tutaj pod postacią tłustych bitów, i rozlanego w przestrzeni przejmującego wokalu, nie ma zbyt wiele. Ale dzięki temu minimalizmowi artysta osiąga niepowtarzalną atmosferę, dzięki niemu również każdy dodatkowy efekt znaczy dużo więcej niż zwykle, jak na przykład field recordings w "Good" czy ledwo słyszalny podkład pod "SiRENS".

Nie obcy jest też artyście klimat zagrożenia i niebezpiecznej tajemnicy, który znakomicie oddaje w  moim ulubionym "Dark Woods". A jeśli ktoś był na Litwie to wie, że takich ciemnych, nieskończonych lasów można się tam bać.

93millionmilesfromthesun - Victory Is Ours EP (2017) EN

The band from the 93 million miles away from the Sun England treats us this year every few months with new fantastic doses of music. After releasing "The Lonely Sea & The Sky" in April, they decided to delight fans of Slowdive with an EP with covers of the newest songs by the shoegaze legend. I should say that those two bands really come along together.

"Victory Is Ours" is a compilation of shoegazing tracks that could as well be written by some of those legends of the genre. The trio makes so much noise that they are sure to be heard even on the Sun but simultaneously, they have this ability to put the noise inside melodies that tend to communicate with the audience's souls. You can hear it in the super-touching "When The Light Has Gone", mesmerizing "Forever Gone Today" and, especially, in the monumental "Kings Of The 80's".

Zespół z oddalonej o 93 miliony mil od słońca Anglii raczy nas w tym roku co chwilę fantastycznymi dawkami muzyki. po kwietniowej "The Lonely Sea & The Sky" zachwycili fanów Slowdive EPką z coverami nowych kawałków legendy shoegaze'u. Trzeba przyznać, że oba zespoły do siebie pasują.

"Victory Is Ours" to kolejna porcja shoegaze'owych kompozycji, których nie powstydziłyby się tuzy gatunku. Trio robi tyle hałasu, że słychać ich pewnie na słońcu, a jednocześnie ma ten dar do zamknięcia go w melodiach komunikujących się z duszą słuchaczy. Słychać to w super przejmującym "When The Light Has Gone", hipnotyzującym "Forever Gone Today" i zwłaszcza monumentalnym "Kings Of The 80's".

smetana - Háv Exkluzivity (2017) EN

Sad songs about feelings. This time from Czech Republic. The duo called smetana, instead of dreampop's softness, makes use of almost coldwave in feeling rawness and sad vocals combined with catchy melodies.

The best example of the latter is probably "Dno Snění" (Dream's Bottom) with appearing in almost every line, if I'm not mistaken, Mona Lisa. Jakub Hamari, who owns this cold, atmospheric voice, sings accompanied with the compositions by Honza Čapek, a real Renaissance man as he deals with every other piece of instrumentarium here. Actually every track by smetana has this ability to be hummed and melancholia-triggering at the same time.

The project's name is (probably) a tribute to Bedřich Smetana, the father of Czech classical music. The inspiration is really ambitious, the young and talented Czechs are worth closer look.

Smutne piosenki o uczuciach. Tym razem zza naszej południowej granicy. Czeski duet smetana stawia jednak nie tyle na dreampopową miękkość a na zakrawającą o coldwave surowość i smutny wokal połączony z wciągającyi melodiami.

Chyba najlepszym przykładem melodii jest "Dno Snění" (Dno snu) z pojawiającą się co chwila, o ile słuch mnie nie myli, Mona Lizą. Jakub Hamari, posiadacz tego zimnego, nastrojowego głosu, śpiewa do kompozycji granych przez Honzę Čapka, prawdziwego człowieka orkiestrę obsługującego w tym projekcie całą resztę instrumentarium. Właściwie każdy zagrany przez nich utwór ma potencjał do bycia podśpiewywanym jak i do wprawiania w melancholię jednocześnie.

Nazwa projektu pochodzi (prawdopodobnie) od nazwiska niepodległościowego kompozytora Bedřicha Smetany, ojca czeskiej muzyki klasycznej. Wzorce bardzo ambitne, warto bliżej obserwować utalentowanych Czechów.

Deer Park Ranger - Moderation (2017) EN

It was only half a year that Trevor Humphrey needed to release two full albums and set his position of one of the best post-rock artists on the very much alternative American scene. The second of the albums, "Moderation", is both, a come back to the perfectly well functioning ways of creating extremely complex compositions and application of some changes to the style.

Those changes only make Deer Park Ranger's sound richer - the music of the American is now a little bit more built on louder guitars or even epic drums ("Shipwreck") and its complexity is even greater. It is really inspiring to see Humphrey's ability to organize all of the sounds and serve them as a catchy piece of post-rock.

It does build up and keep the tension ("Another World, Another Time"), force to dance ("Time And Distance") or even fill the listeners' hearts with this strange feeling of triumphant sadness ("Selling All The Shelves"). And he does all that alone.
