Jolanda Moletta - Oceanine (2026)

Italian ambient artist and "one-woman electronic choir", Jolanda Moletta resided on this blog already back in 2022. Since then, she released 4 albums, including this one: a touching ode to female artfulness. The soundscapes here have two things in common: they're could hardly be any more airy and each of them was created with a different female artist.

Inspired by the mystic presence of sea creatures like sirens and water nymphs, the ethereal soundscapes on the album enchant everyone who is reckless enough to listen. And although there's no gruesome death involved, the listener is also at risk of disappearing for some time. Waving like the sea itself, the compositions strike with the weight that is put on the siren-like vocalizations which makes all 11 tracks very coherent, even if each of them is unique in some aspects.

As said, Moletta invited 11 artists from all over Europe, including her previous collaborator, Karen Vogt as well as Yellow Belly, the artist the collaboration with whom is my numero uno on the album. The way Moletta worked is particularly interesting as all the sounds on the album are actually more or less processed vocals. "For each piece, I invited every vocalist involved to contribute a raw stem: a short, unedited melodic fragment" she adds and trying to figure out how this beautiful compositions were done is part of their magic. And just like magic, they'll remain mystery to me.

Oceanine costs 10 EUR.

Jolanda Moletta - Nine Spells (2022)

The leader of She Owl, the Berlin-based dream pop duo, Jolanda Moletta recently showed what seems to be her first solo album, and what an intriguing gem it is! Nine Spells are magical incantations that are clearly gates to a different, fantastic and pretty moody world.

What's most impressive about this album is that the only instrument Moletta uses is her voice. Distorted and experimented on, yes, but still, just the voice. And its various natures are collected together to create the eerie soundscapes. As she explains, "singing beyond words is a way to express an entire lifeline in one single breath, a way to represent and move emotional mountains, clouds full of tears and winds of laughter, infinite gardens where memories and desires intertwine and work together". This unique way of the abstract storytelling is used by Moletta to explore her ancestry, the history of her female predecessors on this Earth. One thing is certain, it's a magical tribute.

Nine Spells costs 7 EUR.
