Modern Ghosts of the Road is an artistic nickname of Alexandru Das, Romanian musician from Bucharest who serves a dense dose of ambienting drone that from time to time reaches some epic altitudes as if it was flying through clouds towards space.

The album is accompanied by a fragment of Tomas Moore's poem "The Light of Other Days"  which, together with touching sound of Das' music, make the audience feel difficult to resist nostalgia and pain of longing for those couple of worth-experiencing moments we had. To be listened to with handkerchief close.

Giorgio Fazer - Gorzki to chleb jest polskość (2017) EN

Giorgio Fazer is cooperation between Miron Grzegorkiewicz (known from JAAA!), Mateusz Franczak (Daktari) and tons of lyricism and sensibility that is so characteristic of poetry. This time though, poems are written with sounds and were inspired by works of Polish poets.

Now we know who is in Giorgio Fazer, but who IS he? Undoubtedly, he is an artist who writes about Poland from abroad as an emigrant. How do I know that? The unclear vocal is in English, Fazer lives across the Pond (probably Milwaukee (the third song's title translates to "Sunset in Milwaukee)) and doesn't have home (the 8th one means "It's already April, Giorgio and you are still homeless"). Also, it would mean that he is a great heirs of a traditional Polish artist who had to emigrate from Poland and is now sick of melancholia.

Especially that the album deals with questions like "who are we?" "what do we live for?", "what Polishness is?" and if it's bitter (as the title of the album says "Polishness is a bitter bread"). It does so with the help of seemingly chaotic samples and guitar sequences tied together with more or less doubtful melodies. But seen from a longer distance they form some shape. Maybe it is an answer for the questions about Poland.

Giorgio Fazer - Gorzki to chleb jest polskość (2017) PL

Giorgio Fazer to współpraca znanego z JAAA! Mirona Grzegorkiewicza i Mateusza Franczaka (Daktari) oraz tony liryczności i wrażliwości, która cechuje na ogół poezję. Tym razem wiersze pisane są jednak dźwiękami a za inspirację posłużyła twórczość polskich poetów.

Wiemy już kto jest Giorgio Fazerem jednak kim on jest? Bez wątpienia jest artystą, który o Polsce pisze z perspektywy emigranta. Skąd to wiem? Niewyraźny wokal jest po angielsku, Fazer mieszka za oceanem (pewnie w Milwaukee) i nie ma domu (mimo, że już kwiecień). W dodatku dzięki temu jest świetnym przedłużeniem tradycji polskiego artysty na emigracji i dobrze się tu komponuje.

Tym bardziej, że płyta mówi o tym kim jesteśmy, po co żyjemy, czym jest polskość i czy jest ona gorzka tak jak chce tytuł. Robi to za pomocą pozornie chaotycznych sampli i gitarowych sekwencji powiązanych ze sobą mniej lub bardziej umowną linią melodyjną, które jednak widziane z pewnej odległości tworzą całość. Być może to jest odpowiedź na pytanie o nasz kraj.

Seas of Years - Three Horizons Away (2017) EN

Seas of Years is a band that for several years now has been proving how strong the Swedish post-rock is. Musicians who had been dealing with metal music before, showed a lot of post-rock sensibility but they still are not afraid of going a little bit loud.

In 2016, the Swedes released an album that was a longer version of a previous EP, and entitled it "The Ever Shifting Fields", now a similar scenario is possible with another mini-album - "Three Horizons Away" and, it has to be said, it would be great news. The album with a cover picture with enormous buildings (silos?) shows, just like the buildings, gigantism of sounds.

It starts with an atmospheric introduction in "How Visions of a Dreamer Resound" and only in "Mesopelagic Transmissions" the band reaches the sky-high flight of post-rock music. And "Crossing the Coastal Perimeter" is a top-grade noise from the beginning til the end. It's probably the best track on the album with its ability to maintain the atmosphere of more peaceful post-rock while serving pure guitar adrenaline at the same time.

Seas of Years - Three Horizons Away (2017) PL

Seas of Years to zespół, który od kilku lat udowadnia jak silną post-rockową scenę ma Szwecja. Muzycy, którzy przed założeniem zespołu grali głównie metal, odnaleźli w sobie dużo post-rockowej wrażliwości, a jednocześnie nie boją się podkręcić mocno dźwięk.

W 2016 roku Szwedzi wydali płytę, która była poszerzoną wcześniejszą epką i nazwali ją "The Ever Shifting Fields", teraz podobny scenariusz zdarzyć się może z kolejnym mini-albumem, "Three Horizons Away" i, trzeba powiedzieć, ten na to niezwykle zasługuje. Płyta firmowana zdjęciem powodujących zawroty głowy budynków (silosów?) oferuje, tak jak te budowle, rozmach i monstrualność dźwięku.

Album zaczyna się od atmosferycznego wstępu w "How Visions of a Dreamer Resound" i dopiero w "Mesopelagic Transmissions" zrywają się na podniebny gitarowo-post-rockowy pułap. A "Crossing the Coastal Perimeter" to już od początku do końca hałas najwyższej próby. To chyba najlepszy kawałek na płycie bo potrafi zachować klimat spokojniejszego post-rocka przy jednoczesnym zaserwowaniu czystej gitarowej adrenaliny.

Agura Matra - In Silence EP (2017) EN

Our good friend Ben Rammsier comes back with another album with his main project Agura Matra. Dark funeral electronic music from Indonesia is as atmospheric as it was at the beginning of last year, perhaps Rammsier's new music is a good omen for the incoming year?

This time his music is a little bit more lively and almost danceable. You can hardly stay still during the melodic "Runaway Toy" or dark-discotheque'ish (as the title suggests) "The Darkness Dance". As always though, the cosmic-electronic samples and keys sounding like church organs during the last goodbye sound perfect together with the artist's atmospheric voice. And create this combination that is so characteristic of the project. 

The dancing mood burns down after a while and it is replaced with songs even more atmospheric. But there's still the melody that is in the foreground, be it in the quiet as a stone grave "In Silence" or sparkling with electronic effects "Fear".
