I heard that sharks are not dangerous, they just want to hug and as humans misunderstand them, sharks cry a lot. And this makes oceans salty. I don't know if the Russian акульи слёзы, meaning literary "Shark Tears", know about this fact or maybe they wanted their name to poetically define shoegaze which indeed is predacious like sharks and sad like their tears.
On their debut EP "в музее моей памяти" (translating to "In the Museum of my Memory"), they manage to follow this lead. Although the pace of their shoegaze ballads is not particularly high, the loud guitars suggest that if they are not smashing the listener's ears is only because they don't want ot, not because they can't. On the other hand, the super delicate vocal lulls to sleep and makes you day dream.
What is characteristic for the band is building the compositions on a bass line that is very clear on the guitar haze. Perhaps quite contrary to the image the girls show on the cover art and in band pictures, they are far from the punk aggression of the riot grrrl music and very much closer to the atmosphere-rich, inspiring shoegaze.
