Bizarre is one of the bands that established the Estonian shoegaze underground in the 90s and although they are not particularly keen on the label, they belong to the same wave of te airy noise as Pia Fraus or Picnic. Their two albums, "Beautica" from 1994 and "Café de Flor" released two year later, have been resurrected by the Seksound label house that decided to publish unreleased songs as well. That's how "Necro" was born.
From the first moments of the album, you can easily notice the spirit of the shoegaze of the 90s a'la the early Slowdive. Delicate vocals and slow melodies plus experiments with exotic rhythms ("Waters") or electronic backgrounds ("Any Day"). The band manoeuvre between very catchy melodies (as in "Summer Rain") and atmosphere and experimenting ("Barcode Warrior"). Sometimes, but not very often, they turn on some dirty guitar noise (as in "Never Ever"), the best accompaniment for delicate singing, no doubts about it.
From the technical point of view, the album by the Estonians doesn't sound like having been stored in a drawer for last twenty years. On the other hand, the band's music has so much of the time's vibe and it only adds to its uniqueness.
"Necro" costs 8 EUR.
