Russian instrumental trio Grottos inspired by a variety of alternative genres from post-rock, through post-metal up to shoegaze, have just released their first longer album. And the influence of band like Russian Circles, If These Trees Could Talk czy Rosetta is clearly audible in heavy notes generating the furious emotions-led music.
The album's title is a word truly monumental, it may mean one of the Saturn's moons, a prehistoric ocean or one of the female titans from the Greek mythology. Either way, it always carries the associations with grandour and massiveness. No wonder it became the patron of the album that already in the 3rd second attacks the audience with bone-crushing guitar sounds speeding up like a long-distance train.
And to be honest, it doesn't seem to slow down, ever. After the fast "Path" goes the crazy "Escape" only to get jammed by the finish of "All Rivers Against". And so on. If you really want to, you can maybe find some less intense fragments but when you listen to those, you just know that the band will step on it soon enough to leave you breathless. A real energetic pill.
"Tethys" costs 3 USD.
