It's hardly any surprise that a band from California knows how to shoegaze. It's more like a dogma. Bigger surprise is that RIDE didn't reactivate under their own name, they came back as Giant Surprise.
Liste to "Dive" and try not to think you're listening to "Nowhere". Difficult thing. Although the band doesn't point to RIDE as their inspiration (probably as a disguise) I'm not going to believe they're not under RIDE's influence. Similar melodies and shoegaze aesthetics and even... the vocal that sounds like it can be confused with Andy Bell's. Those are only compliments since their music sounds fresh. More like RIDE would like to sound after being so long in the musical afterlife. specially the guitars are full of dreamy energy and create a perfect wall - not too noisy, not too loud, just perfect to dive and swim away.
"Dive" was published by Villains Records can be bought for "pay-what-you-want". Another pleasant surprise.
